About the Business

Turpin Bookkeeping Services is owned and managed by Liz Turpin who has worked for small and medium sized businesses since 1989. Much of my time was spent working in the back office, preparing accounts and financial administration to various levels in a variety of industries. In 2008 I graduated with a BA (Hons) in Business Management from Hull University and started working as a Business Advisor for the Hull Enterprise Partnership (HEP) helping people to start their own businesses. Part of my job was to researching funding opportunities and helping people producing basic business and marketing plans, ensuring that they met legal requirements (registration for self-employed).

When the Hull Enterprise Project concluded I decided to put my experience into work for myself and started my own Hull based bookkeeping business. I have over 20 years of experience and have gained my level 3 and 4 AAT (Association of Accounting Technicians) qualification to underpin my knowledge and experience.

I’ve been using Turpin Book Keeping since setting my business up in 2009. At first I needed someone to set my books up properly and to keep regular checks on how the business was doing. Liz not only set my books up in such a way that I can manage them myself most of the time, but has also given me loads of advice, support and even customer referrals over the years! These days I know my books are in good order and just need Liz to prepare my annual returns. I know I can call Liz whenever I need a bit of advice and she’s always happy to help.

When Jenny received a big rush order that needed to be delivered at the time she would normally be preparing her annual returns, she realised that she needed to call in outside help. Turpin Book Keeping quickly determined what needed doing and prepared everything for Jenny’s VAT return and the books her accountant needed for her ‘year end’. Panic over, Jenny recognised that what started as a one-off arrangement had taken a huge burden off her shoulders and if she kept Turpin’s on she’d have more time to develop her craft business. We’re now working with Jenny on a regular basis, not only looking after her books, but also finding ways to make her business administration more efficient and are looking at ways to smooth out Jenny’s seasonal cashflow.
